HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a fully digital audio-video cable interface that allows the transmission of encrypted and uncompressed data streams.

There are several types:

  • The most common, Type A (with 19 pins)

  • Type C, also called mini-HDMI (a compact version of Type A, also with 19 pins)

  • Type D, also called micro-HDMI (even more compact, used on certain digital camcorders, tablets, or smartphones)

  • Type B, the equivalent of Dual Link DVI (now almost obsolete).

The HDMI cable can transmit a digital signal in HD for both video and digital audio between various devices (flat screens, Blu-ray players, DVDs, internet boxes, decoders, projectors, interactive whiteboards, A/V amplifiers...) or computers (computers via HDMI adapters, gaming consoles, media centers…). It enables HD home theater transmission.

The HDMI cable is capable of transmitting high-quality audio and video signals. It can support high resolutions such as 4K, and many modern electronic devices are compatible with HDMI connections, making it one of the most popular connectors on the market.
